Design Intent and Entrance Planting
Located in the historic town of Alton, this development required a landscape that felt both classic and in keeping with its surroundings, while still appearing modern and well presented. The setting, close to open green spaces and community facilities, meant the outdoor areas needed to be attractive and welcoming, helping the development blend naturally into the wider environment.
To achieve this, Archway Green focused on the key entrance and show home areas. A central pond area was turfed, and a carefully maintained planting border was introduced to create a strong and prestigious first impression. The planting included a mix of grasses and shrubs, such as Carex testacea ‘Prairie Fire’, chosen for its narrow, arching foliage and seasonal colour change, shifting from olive green in summer to warm copper tones in winter.

A Simple and Lasting Landscape Outcome
Each element was selected to support a neat and structured appearance, while still allowing for seasonal variation and visual interest. The use of simple planting combinations ensures the landscape remains easy to maintain while continuing to reflect the traditional character of the area.
The result is a clean and welcoming environment that enhances the entrance to the development and supports its overall identity. Over time, as the planting establishes and matures, it will continue to strengthen the setting, offering a balanced and lasting landscape for residents and visitors alike.
