Landscape Vision and Planting Strategy
Archway Green was tasked with creating a strong landscaped setting around this large office development in Reading, ensuring the planting reflected the professional and modern nature of the workspace. The scheme included an impressive tree-lined entrance, planted car park areas, and a courtyard designed as a green space for employees to enjoy during the day.
A wide range of plants, shrubs and trees was used to make full use of the space. Hedera hibernica (Atlantic ivy) was planted along boundary fences and trained to grow through wires, forming a dense, natural screen that improves privacy over time. Stipa tenuissima ‘Pony Tails’ introduced soft texture, helping to balance the sharper lines of the buildings while remaining low-maintenance and hardy. Within the courtyard, Corylus avellana ‘Contorta’ added visual interest with its twisted branches and seasonal features, creating a more engaging and relaxing environment for staff.

A Functional and Attractive Workplace Environment
Each element was selected to combine structure, usability and visual appeal, helping the landscape support both the function of the site and the wellbeing of those using it. The tree avenue leading into the car park was installed using the RootSpace® system, which supports long-term tree health by providing better soil conditions and root growth, even in built environments.
The result is a landscape that brings together a professional appearance with a more natural and calming atmosphere. Courtyard planting and seating areas create space for breaks and informal use, while surrounding planting softens the built form of the development. Over time, as the planting matures, the site will continue to strengthen its identity, offering a well-balanced environment that benefits both employees and visitors.
