Design Approach and Planting Features
At Maulden Ridge, Archway Green were tasked with creating gardens that reflect the surrounding countryside while still feeling modern and visually engaging. Located in a quiet village setting, the landscape needed to balance eye-catching design with a sense of tranquillity, ensuring residents could enjoy both privacy and open green space.
A key feature of the scheme was the use of Phormium ‘Yellow Wave’ throughout the development. This evergreen plant provides strong structure and colour, with arching variegated leaves that shift in tone through the seasons, alongside red summer flowers that add further interest. An impressive entrance was created using cone-shaped Buxus sempervirens, offering a clean and formal look that requires minimal maintenance while maintaining its shape.
To support privacy and define spaces, closeboard fencing was installed between properties, while estate fencing was used around the boundaries to create a more refined and consistent finish. A unique addition to the project was a screened ‘getaway’ space filled with sensory planting, designed to offer a more secluded and relaxing environment within the development.

A Cohesive and Lasting Landscape Outcome
Each element was selected to create a landscape that feels unified and complete, combining planting, structure and boundary treatments into a clear and consistent design. The repeated use of feature plants helps tie the development together, while varied textures and seasonal changes maintain visual interest throughout the year.
The result is a landscape that delivers both impact and comfort, with strong entrance features and well-defined gardens that enhance the overall setting. As the planting matures, the development will continue to soften and settle into its surroundings, offering residents a lasting and enjoyable outdoor space.
