Design Vision and Planting Approach

The Old School House in Chobham is a luxury redevelopment set within three acres of former school grounds, where the landscaping needed to reflect the high standard of the homes and their surroundings. The aim was to create outdoor spaces that felt both exclusive and welcoming, with communal areas playing a key role in the overall experience of the development.

To achieve this, Archway Green introduced extensive soft landscaping, including over 2,600 rolls of turf, alongside native hedgerows and young trees. The gardens are linked by gently meandering paths, creating a natural flow through the site. Ornamental trees line the walkways, while sleek hedging divides spaces and provides structure. These formal elements are softened with flowering shrubs and climbers around pergolas, as well as mature trees at the edges, helping to create a calm, country garden feel.

Frontages were given a refined finish with ornamental topiary and low hedging, enhancing the overall sense of quality and attention to detail across the development.

A Landscape that Defines the Development

Each element was selected to balance structure with softness, ensuring the landscape feels both designed and natural. The combination of formal layouts, flowing paths and layered planting creates a setting that supports both privacy and shared use, which is essential within a gated community.

The result is a landscape that plays a key role in the identity and success of the development. Marketed as “homes and gardens”, the scheme highlights how outdoor space adds value to the overall living experience. Over time, as the planting matures, the gardens will continue to strengthen the character of the site, offering a lasting and well-established environment for residents.
