Creating a Space for Rest and Community
Archway Green were proud to be selected as the soft landscaping contractor for Greenlands, a development designed to provide new homes for key workers of St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey. It was important that the landscape became a real oasis for residents to enjoy outside of work, while also supporting family life, with many children living within the scheme.
The project began with the large central area, which was turfed to create a space for relaxing, picnicking and spending time with family and friends. Within this green, large rocks and retained mature trees were arranged to form a natural play area, offering both interest and a safe environment for children. To bring colour into the scheme, a mixture of planting was introduced, including Geranium ‘Rozanne’ and ‘Terre Franche’, Tulip ‘Negrita’, and Allium sphaerocephalon. With their purple tones and staggered flowering from mid spring to late autumn, they provided a consistent thread of colour throughout the year.
Trees such as Sorbus aria ‘Magnifica’ and Amelanchier arborea ‘Robin Hill’ were included to add structure and seasonal interest. From spring flowers to autumn berries and winter silhouettes, these choices help create a balanced and engaging landscape across all seasons.

A Landscape That Supports Everyday Life
An array of shrubs and planting surrounds the central green, helping to define the space while strengthening the sense of community across the development. The layout encourages residents to gather, move through the space easily, and enjoy both active and quiet areas within the same setting.
Each element was selected to combine colour, structure and usability, ensuring the landscape works for a wide range of needs. As the planting establishes, it will continue to soften the development and create a more settled and natural feel. The result is a welcoming environment that is already being enjoyed by residents and will continue to develop over time, offering a lasting and meaningful outdoor space.
